Good oral health is established by daily flossing, brushing at home and routine dental cleanings at County Dental. County Dental in the Hudson Valley of New York recommends a consultation with your dentist to establish a hygiene maintenance program as part of your routine.
We are here to help you and your family with the program to a healthy smile at home and when visiting County Dental.
Oral Health: Did You Know?
The hygiene maintenance program is designed to prevent gum disease and treat any existing infections in order to establish and maintain good oral health.
More than 75 percent of Americans over 35 have some form of gum disease.
What Happens During the Initial Examination?
We look for common warning signs of gum disease and evaluate the condition of the gums, noting any recession, bleeding, or bone loss during the initial exam. Risk factors for gum disease, such as diabetes, smoking, and the use of certain medications will also be evaluated.
Should you notice any of these symptoms prior to your appointment contact a patient care coordinator today.
Customized Treatment Plans
If you do exhibit signs of gum disease, we will create a customized treatment plan to reduce the infection and reverse the progression of the disease.
The ADA says potential warning signs of periodontal disease include:
- Gums that bleed easily, or are swollen, red or tender.
- Gums that are receding from the teeth.
- Frequent bad breath or a bad taste in your mouth.
- Loosening or separating of permanent teeth.
- A change in the way teeth align when you bite.
- A change in the way dentures fit.
