Spring sports tips

Help Protect Your Kids Teeth During Spring Sports with These Tips

March 29, 2018 Oral Hygiene - New York Offices - County Dental Group

Spring is here and that means more kids and outdoor activities will fill up your already full schedule.

A recent sports study revealed that 84% of children do not wear mouth guards while playing organized sports. Mouthguards are essential to maintaining a healthy smile.
Since April is National Facial Protection Mouth, We at County Dental want to help your kids protect their smile while enjoying their outdoor activities.

We know accidents happen. But, preventing accidents is also possible with these simple tips below:

  • Wear a mouth guard when playing contact sports. Mouth guards can help prevent injury to a person’s jaw, mouth and teeth. Store your mouthguard in its protective case and be sure the case is well ventilated. Use a toothbrush and toothpaste to clean your mouthguard. Ask your dentist at County Dental for the proper mouthguard for your needs.
  • Wear a helmet. Helmets absorb the energy of an impact and help prevent damage to the head.
  • Wear protective eyewear. Eyes are extremely vulnerable to damage, especially when playing sports.
  • Wear a face shield to avoid damage to the delicate bones around the jaw as well as the eyes and nose. Hockey pucks, basketballs, and racquetballs can cause severe damage to the mouth and face at any age.

Protect that Smile
