County Dental understands that dental emergencies happen at times that may not be convenient. If you have a question about a dental appointment or have a dental emergency please call your County Dental office. If your dental emergency occurs after hours and you need emergency assistance, please contact your emergency provider.
We provide the tips below how to handle different types of dental emergencies:
A toothache: Rinse your mouth with warm water. Use dental floss to remove any trapped food and then rinse. Do you have swelling? Place an ice pack on the outside of the cheek (20 minutes on, 20 minutes off). See your dentist as soon as possible.
Object stuck between teeth: Try to remove the object with dental floss and then rinse. Do not use a sharp or pointed instrument. If that doesn’t work, come see us at your County Dental office.
Canker sore: Do you have small white wounds inside your mouth on cheeks, gums or tongue? That sounds like a canker sore! Consult with your dentist at your visit to find out the recommended over-the-counter treatment.
Your Tooth has fallen out: Retrieve the tooth if possible. If it’s a baby tooth, place it in a container of milk, salt water or your saliva. If these are unavailable, use water. If it is a permanent tooth, be careful not to touch the root and try to carefully insert the tooth back in place if possible. Go to the dentist immediately.
A broken tooth: Gently clean dirt from the injured area with antiseptic oral cleaners and place an ice pack on the face in the injured area of the tooth. This will help minimize swelling. Come see us at County Dental immediately!
Braces: Use orthodontic wax to protect your skin from a broken wire. If you have a loose bracket, wax can temporarily hold the piece in place until you can go see your orthodontist.
